FIRST SEMESTER
ASSIGNMENT 0_1 : Basic Vocabulary
We learned basic terms of design principles such as; radiality. symmetry, dominancy, repetition, growth, emphasize, movement etc.

ASSIGNMENT 0_2: Body/ Movement/ Space
We experienced and learned how to use our body to present basic design principles with the leading of Fırat Neziroğlu .

ASSIGNMENT 0_3: Fruits and Vegetables
In this assignment, we learned how to analyse a vegetable/fruit geometricly, how to eliminate its features to the minimum where we can still tell the characteristics of the object, and the difference between design and realistic sketch.

EXCURSION 0_1: KEY Museum + Selçuk Train Museum
In this excursion we did sketches of the vehicles we’ve seen, later on we analysed them to their geometric and basic forms.

ASSIGNMENT 0_4: Abstracting Design
We abstracted and eliminated the features of the vehicle we’ve seen in the last excursion. We created info posters of the vehicle we were assigned to by abstracting them.

ASSIGNMENT 0_5: Enveloping Two Voids
We learned how to design void and solid in this assignment and we designed the relation between them.

ASSIGNMENT 0_6: Light Box
With fully opaque and semi-transparent elements we tried to control the light and create a 2D design reflection on a semi transparent surface.

EXCURSION 0_2: Denizli + Aydın
Denizli Municipality Conservatory + Hieropolis Museum + Pool & Theatre + Buldan City Centre + 3 Buldan Houses + Merzeci Flour Factory + Osmanbey and Konyalı House + Ticket Shop of Denizli Municipality Theatre + Babadağlılar Market + Atatürk House and Etnography Museum + Germiyanoğulları Hamam + Mosque of Arasta + Municipality Teahouse at Old City + Afrodisias Museum + Theatre, Stadium & Rural Houses

ASSIGNMENT 0_7: Lighting Space: A Volumetric Composition
In our final assignment we tried to combine everything we’ve learned till now. By determining a specific repeating unit for our project, we tried to control light in the terms of experiencing the space. We learned how to differentiate space by using the level differences.

SECOND SEMESTER
ASSIGNMENT 0_1
Fun Project: String/PhilographyArt: Nature Creates
As a group of five/six, you are expected to create an abstract composition on 60x60cm fiberboard using string art technique. Your composition needs to convey an idea that you will associate it with basic design principles and vocabulary.1. Create an abstract composition.2. Inspire from nature that creates geometries and also emotions, and senses.3. Give your composition a name.4. Use a design principle.5. Use a colour scheme.6. Initially, you will create your composition on 60x60cm cardboard, then you will apply it on a 60x60cm fiberboard.
7. Use parchment paper to control your design field.8. Record the process of your work and create a one-three minutes video to explain your design idea. Try to relate your visuals with textual materials (Use sketches, bodies, images, some textual expressions, etc.)
9. 2.5-dimensional works are encouraged.
10. Use of recycled strings is encouraged.

ASSIGNMENT 0_1.a: Structural Systems : Tensile Structures
The purpose of this assignment is understanding the basic principles of a structure through the analysis of “Tensile Structural Systems”.
The term of Tensile Structure is associated with the load-bearing capacity of structures (i.e. buildings) that is achieved through tension stress using cables, fabrics or foils. Although it may be in different forms, it has generally two constructional processes: the saddle and the cone, or combination of them.
In this assignment, designed tensile structure of ours based on the basic principles of Tensile Structural System located in Gülbahçe Square, Gülbahçe, Urla.
To create our own composition,we first needed to understand the principles of tensile structures through the analyses of existing structures and model making. After then, we started working on our composition with a proper application to the site.
The composition of our structure was going to cover at least half of the Gülbahçe Square, but would not exceed 2/3 of it. It would provide a shading environment to about 20 people who are standing underneath it for a specific reason that we would decide and describe. Our structure needed to represent the possibility and space characteristic of the nearby environment as well as represent its architectural durability.

ASSIGNMENT 0_1.b: Tensile Structure on Gülbahçe Square
As the last step of this assignment, we designed a tensile structure of ours based on the basic principles of Tensile Structural System located in Gülbahçe Square, Gülbahçe, Urla.
Since our design proposal would locate on a certain place, we also needed to experience and explore the site. This understanding helped us to design our design proposal suitable to its nearby environment. As a group of 2, this understanding was represented on a 35*50 cm poster, analyzing of the site through photos, sketches (facade and perspectives), diagrammatic illustration indicating circulation patterns, vista points etc. (1/500 to 1/200 scale base map would be enough to use for showing the diagrammatic representation.)
In relation to the site, we developed a design proposal of tensile structure individually. Our structure would cover at least half of the Gülbahçe Square, but would not exceed 2/3 of it. It would provide a shading environment to about 20 people who are standing underneath it for a specific reason that we decided and described. Our structure needed to represent the possibility and space characteristic of the nearby environment as well as represent its architectural durability and will be on a 1/50 scale.
Additionally, we also produced a mass model of the Gülbahçe Square which was a collaborative work of the class. The scale of this model was also 1/50.

ASSIGNMENT 0_2 : Social Gathering Space in Urla Pier
In this assignment, we created a shelter design at Urla Pier to promote community involvement and also to celebrate the productivity of social space. In order to enhance the social and cultural relationships between land and sea, we had to consider the design alternatives regarding this particular relationship on the site.
This would be a social space providing a common ground that anyone can enter and where everyone belongs. It would be an appealing alternative to social spaces of Urla such as green public areas, coffeehouses, saloons, and youth centers for talking, drinking, dancing, playing, meeting, etc. It will be a meeting place to create an intersection of people and ideas.
We contributed to improving the quality of social life in Urla by observing and transforming a sequence of selected spots along the shore. In groups of 2, we designed 2 related social spaces for people. We needed to create scenarios based on space characteristics questioning what makes a social space appealing to the people. The activities could be ranged as commerce, entertainment or performances, recreational or sporting, markets or vending, exhibits, fairs, festivals, special events, etc. Our shelter would be multi-functional having capacity especially for the meeting, and also for display, performance and celebration.
The spaces should have provided shelters for social activities in the context of intellectual exchange and creativity.

EXCURSION 0_2: Old Foça/ İzmir
In this assignment, we designed a small dormitory space for a group of art students (3-5) who will participate in an art festival/event in Foça. This space will consist of not only basic living functions for accommodation but also a workshop space for both performance/practice and display/exhibit.
Our proposal would be located in an empty plot in Foça. Registered as an urban site, the place’s site and architectural character would be a reference for our design. The proposal should respond to the physical and social characteristics of the selected plot while bringing a touch of festival joy to Foça.
We focused on the privacy, individuality and comfort of the students designing their dormitory spaces in which they would sleep, rest, bath. In workshop spaces, you I created a balance between private, public and social requirements/needs. Outside of festival/event periods, my workshop area would function as a small art gallery. So, I designed at the relations of private-public and individual-social.
We examined privacy on individual living spaces which will be conceptualized as existenzminimum through basic functions such as sleeping, resting, bathing, and eating. We needed to provide minimum living standards for the students. But the main aim needs to be maximize the empty space. Accordingly, in practice and display spaces, the idea that based on using minimum space with maximum efficiency needs to be implied as maximization of empty space. We transformed existenzminimum into a strategy in which creation of compact solutions for functions would be resulted in maximization of empty spaces.
Through the performance/practice and display spaces, we had a chance bridging private and individual space(s) with social and public space(s).

ASSIGNMENT 0_3: Dormitory Space Design for Art Students: Accommodation, Workshop, and Exhibition
I improved my design that would be located in an empty plot in Old Foça. It will be a dormitory space for the selected art students consisting of accommodating and workshop space (consisting of practice or display spaces). With its location and relation with the town, it should provide a capacity to be transformed into a small gallery/museum.
